A 5-day Faculty Development Program on “Advancements in Wireless Communication: Understanding and Implementing 5G Technology” was organized by Electronics and Communication Engineering Department from 11th December 2023 to 15th December 2023 wherein the inaugural Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Garima Saini, Assistant Professor, Electronics and Communication Department from NITTTR Chandigarh in Smart Classroom, Block 1. This program was intended to provide the participants a common platform to share the knowledge, experience and innovation in the areas related to basics and advances in Wireless Communication and 5G technology. It also provided an opportunity to interact with eminent personalities working in these areas. Experts from renowned institutes like NITTTR Chandigarh, CCET-Chandigarh, PEC-Chandigarh, UIET, Kurukshetra University imparted knowledge on topics like emergence of 5G technology, architecture and challenges, Industrial IOT, Massive IOT, Natural Language Processing, Federated learning, hybrid soft computing algorithms, Artificial Neural Network (ANN), BSS (Blind Source Separation) techniques.
Dr. Garima Saini illuminated on “Understanding 5G and its fundamentals”. In this session participants learned emergence of 5G technology, architecture and challenges. A comparison of all mobile communication technology generations was also presented by the speaker. Participants put forth their queries on evolving 5G technologies and their deployment in India; which were comprehensively addressed by the speaker. In continuation to day 1, on day 2, Dr. Nikhil Kumar Marriwala, Assistant Professor from the Department of ECE, UIET, Kurukshetra University gave a session enriched with the knowledge of Core technologies of 5G. In this session participants learned about emerging highly secured 5G technology, and its applications in the real time world. Further he explained about Industrial IOT, Massive IOT, Natural Language Processing, Federated learning. He also explained the integration of AI and 5G. In continuation on day 3 Dr. Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, Associate Professor NITTTR, Chandigarh gave a session enriched with the knowledge of Design of Antennas for 5G wireless Communication using soft Computing. In this session participants learned about background history, design problems and antenna shapes. Further he explained about need of hybrid soft computing algorithms, Artificial Neural Network (ANN). He also explained the Bacterial Foraging Optimization (BFO) Algorithms. On Day 4, Dr. V Anil Kumar, Assistant Professor from CCET, Sec 26, Chandigarh, continued our FDP workshop with a session enriched with the knowledge of 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G technologies. He went on to discuss BSS (Blind Source Separation) techniques. In this session participants learned about SCBSS, EEMD, MISO, CSI, EMD. Further, he compared ICA and PCA techniques with the help of algorithms. Participants put forward their queries which were addressed by the keynote speaker. The Final day was concluded with the session of an eminent educator Dr. Simranjit Singh, Associate Professor, PEC-Chandigarh.
A vote of thanks was given by Dr. Vinay Bhatia, HOD ECE. He acknowledged the expertise of all the speakers present on all the 5 days. He also thanked all the speakers for their contribution in enhancing the knowledge of the participants. By the end of this FDP module, participants will have gained a solid foundation in the principles, technologies, and applications of 5G, preparing them to effectively integrate this transformative technology into their respective fields of expertise.
