The function was attended by Head of Deptt., Col H.S Sarin and all the staff members of the Electronics Deptt. Dr G.D. Bansal, The Director – General of Chandigarh Group of Colleges also graced the occasion and blessed the outgoing students.

There is an urgent need to create a strong interaction between Industry and academicians for preparing specific curriculum based on the needs of Industry so that the students can be made employable. In Punjab, there has been a significant growth in the sector of education and now there is more need to focus on the development of technical & professional education. These were the expressions of Hon’ble Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal. S. Badal was addressing the students and staff on the occasion of Placement Day at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran.
The Chief Minister handed over the offer letters to students who were selected by companies like Satyam, LT& T, Infosys etc during their Recruitment Drives at CGC Campus. He further added that basic standard of primary education needs to be raised in villages and free education should be given to economically backward students. For this purpose in every block one Adarsh School is to be opened by his government in coming years which will give free quality education to the students. Eduaction in India is quite costly and there must be some planning for downtrodden people for that his government is in touch with center govt. Congratulating the students, Chief Minister said that they are lucky to be at the Institution like CGC which is putting in exceptional efforts for the employment of the students.
Giving information about the efforts put by the college to make this Placement Day successful Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman & Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President said that during last year 53 national and
international companies have visited CGC campus for the recruitment. Their college is working towards not only the placement of their students but the placement of the students of other colleges of Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Himachal. As many as 40000 students of the region have appeared in the joint placement drives and thousands of them have been placed in reputed companies with the annual package of as much as 3 lakhs per annum.
Feeling overwhelmed on the achievement made by the students of Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Dr
G.D Bansal, Director-General said that some of the students of their college like Aashish Paul, Alok Singh, Parmesh Grover, Joya Bansal, Abhishek Sharma Arun Sood and many more have received offer letter from 3-4 companies altogether. He said that CGC has lived up to its aim of offering job letters to the students much before they get their degrees.
On this occasion, a live performance by Amrinder Gill noted Punjabi singer was given and some of the staff members were honoured by Chief Minister for their excellent services and achievements.

Fast Track Selection Drive of Indian Air Force Concluded Successfully |
In the Fast Track Selection Drive of Indian Air Force, held at CEC, Landran, students of various engineering colleges of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh showed overwhelming response. As many as 1024 students of B.Tech and 69 students of MCA & PG from various engineering colleges got themselves registered for this mega drive.
For the B.Tech students , in the first round total 505 students were short listed. Out of these 505 students, 466 turned up for the second round. Finally 127 students were given call letters for appearing before the SSB.
In the 23 short listed students of MCA , 5 were found ineligible. Out of total 18 students 9 were given the call letter for appearing before the SSB.

Great response to Fast Track Drive of IAF at CEC, Landran |
On the first day of Fast Track Selection Drive of Indian Air Force, students of various engineering colleges of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh showed overwhelming response. More than 775 students of B.Tech and 60 students of MCA & PG from various engineering colleges got themselves registered for this mega drive. Total 458 students from Punjab, 258 from Haryana, 16 from Himachal & 18 from other states participated in it.
One wing Commander along with 13 supporting officers and 3 officers from first service selection board and one officer from Air force Headquarter Delhi are here at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran to conduct this selection drive. The selection process included
KEPT i.e. Engineering Knowledge Test for B.Tech students and CET, Common Engineering Test for MCA and PG students. EKT consisted of two multiple choice questions (MCQ) papers viz. General Engineering and Specialist Paper of total duration approx 1 Hour. While CET included two parts viz. Multiple Choice Questions (English & General Awareness) and Descriptive Test in English of total duration approx 1 Hour).
The qualified Engineers will be inducted in Aeronautical Engineer branch and MCAs / PGs will be inducted in Meteorological branch of Indian Air Force.
The students who qualify in written test today will have to appear for Phase-1 test (Picture Perception and Discussion test) tomorrow. All Phase-I qualified candidates will be issued Call Letter by the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs) for testing during March- Apr 2008 result. After completion of training, the selected candidates will be commissioned in the rank of Flying Officer (First Class Gazatted Officer). The Scale of Pay is as approved by Govt. of India for Class I Gazatted Officer similar to IAS/IPS.

model, introduces new management team |
Moving towards the adaptation of western model of teaching, learning and research, Chandigarh Engineering College (CEC), Mohali has formulated a new management team responsible for integrating curriculum with entrepreneurship among the students. In the process, the college has appointed five new deans, a vice-principal while it has entrusted policy formation to Dr G D Bansal, who has been elevated as Director Principal of the
college. The new team, with the majority of young academicians and administrators, would aim at inculcating professional competitiveness among the students studying at CEC. Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted fast track selections of engineers from engineering colleges of Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh (UT) at Chandigarh Engineering College Landran (CEC) on 3rd , 4th & 5th of December,2006.With a view to expedite the normal selection process, IAF had identified 13 cities in India where Fast Track Selection (FTS)
Centers was made. Chandigarh is one of these centers. Seeing the infrastructure and other facilities available in different engineering colleges in and around Chandigarh including Punjab Engineering College,
Chandigarh, CEC, Landran was selected as the FTS centre for this region .The selection criteria was divided in stages. All the Phase-I qualified candidates will be issued call letters for Phase-II test at Air Force Selection Boards during end of December 06- January 07. The finally selected candidates will be offered handsome pay packages and Unique perks including – Rs. 8000/- per month as stipend during training. On successful completion of training, rank of Flying Officer in the pay scale of 8250-300-10500 per month. Chandigarh Engineering College bagged overall trophy in Inter College weight lifting Championship. In the Competition the college team bagged first position in Weight Lifting and Power Lifting competition and second position in Best Physique Competition. CEC has got 12 Gold, 6 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. In the championship 35 weight lifters, 45 body builders and 72 power lifters participated.

A Chandigarh Engineering College, Landran, near Mohali, became the region's first professional college to have campus interviews conducted by Punjab Tractors Limited (PTL), one of the leading tractor manufacturers in country. The company will pay a monthly stipend of Rs.15000/- per month to trainees. After successful completion of year long training, the company is expected to pay salary of over Rs. 20000/- per month. The candidates have to undergo an aptitude test, GD, besides a technical and personal interview. CEC is going to tie up with a New Zealand institute Waikato Institute of Technology (WINTECH), Hamilton. Mr. Mark Flowers, Chief Executive Officer of WINTECH visited CEC and CCHMCT to explore tie ups in area of higher studies and placement of students of these colleges in New Zealand. He was accompanied by Mr. Tim Croucher, Senior Academic staff member, Allie Stevens, manager, Student Experience, and Col. K.S. Gujral. He said students after completing their education can go for short term courses in Business, Education and IT. After studying there for one year one can get permission letter for searching jobs for six months.
