“Deep dive Faculty Enablement Program” on soft skills”:

Five days, “Deep dive Faculty Enablement Program” on soft skills was hosted by  Information Technology Department, CEC, Landran in Collaboration With Infosys Campus Connect from 12th -16th May 2014. It was attended by 30 faculty members of Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Landran. The FEP began with the Inauguration by Director-Principal Dr. B. Pattnaik. Senior Member of Infosys Limited Mr. Manas Tyagi    enlightened the session on topic Facilitation Skills giving up warm up start to the FEP by explaining the key concepts related to facilitator. He empowered the mind of audience with detail coverage of Interpersonal and Intrapersonal skills, Speak up Right, 3V’s of Communication Skills, and other wide areas of soft skills. Through an interactive session by Senior Project Manager Anuja Jain of Infosys Limited, on Presentation Skills and Group Discussion FEP came to an end.

The Chairman of CGC, Landran S. Satnam Singh Sandhu and President of CGC, Landran S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal greeted the attendees in CGC, Landran and emphasis that the knowledge of Soft skills is the need of hour and this FEP will allow the participants to maximize their educational experience. This retentive style of teaching provides ample opportunity for the participants to become involved in individual, dyad, triad, and group exercises to immediately put what they are learning into practice.

 

Industrial Visit to Piford Technologies (17/03/2015):

The IT department organised industrial visit for its 3rd year students on 17/03/2015. The students visited Piford Technologies, sec-67, Mohali. The students showed keen interest in this visit. The students reported at Piford Technologies at 11 am. There were 60 students in visiting group and were accompanied by two faculty members. Students were really excited after making this visit. The company officials gave them presentations on different technologies being used in the company. An interactive session was conducted by company officials and certificates were given to the confident and smart students. The students are very keen for such industrial visits in near future in other big companies so that they could see themselves and learn industry style of working. We have conveyed the expectations of students to the CRC deptt and they have also assured us to tie-up with companies for such visits often.

Expert Talk On ” Time Management System using Visual Studio and Laser Technology (16/02/2015):

Department of Information Technology has conducted an Expert Talk On ” Time Management System using Visual Studio and Laser Technology” in the seminar hall in Engineering Block-3 on Monday 16-02-2015. The Expert was Dr. Navneet Singh Aulakh, Scientist, CSIO and he elaborated the concept  very elegantly and descriptively sporting the same with well conceive  practical examples like Car-Rally, where the precise measurement of time is more important. The key audience for talk was  post-graduate students from IT, CEC, ECE and CGC-COE. The topic chosen was well taken by these prospective researchers and that was evident from their queries post Expert Talk. So, this was really an interactive session and serves the purpose well and will definitely motivate the young prospective researchers to think innovatively and thereby making their research more meaningful and more society oriented.

Guest Lecture on the topic of “Operating System” (23/3/2015):

Dr. Anil Verma HOD CSE from Thapar University has delivered a Guest Lecture on the topic of “Operating System” which is a syllabus part of 4th semester B-Tech IT curriculum prescribed by PTU . He had shared his expertise on File System, FAT 16, FAT 32 etc. He had thrown light on the various types of new Operating Systems in the market including Surface. The key audience to the lectures was 4th semester students of CSE & IT branches. Overall , it was a learning and fruitful experience for the students.

 

Webinars Big Data and Hadoop (13th ,27th  and 29th  Feb 2015)

An ‪‎interesting and informative Webinar Series on Big Data and Hadoop was conducted by Infosys, Chandigarh under the Campus Connect Programme being run at Chandigarh Engineering College, Landran, Mohali for Faculty and postgraduate students of CSE and IT departments. This was the first webinar under four series scheduled and the remaining three series will be conducted on three successive Fridays i.e. on 13th, 29th and 27th February, 2015.

A total of 50 students and 15 faculty members from CEC participated in the webinar.

The session was delivered by Mr. Neeraj Garg, Technology Lead – Cloud and Big Data Unit, Infosys Chandigarh. Mr. Neeraj has over 10 years of experience in industry. He has been working on big data technologies like Splunk, Hadoop and MongoDB since early 2012. Apart from the development in these technologies, he has been actively involved in Courseware development, Trainings and Research publications of Big Data including NoSQL databases and Hadoop.

 

Seminar on High Impact Induction Program:

Information Technology department of Chandigarh Engineering college, Landran has organized a two days Seminar on “High Impact Induction Program” dated 28th and 29th Oct 2014 under Infosys Campus Connect.  The Program was Inaugurated by Director-Principal Dr. B. Pattnaik, HOD IT Mr. Shashi Bhusan, Associate Prof. Mr. Manish Mahajan and Senior Member of Infosys Limited Mr. Pankaj Bharti .

This program was designed to reach out to the first year engineering graduates to provide them the right alignment with respect to Engineering as a profession and to give them the right perspectives to prepare themselves to be future global professionals.  This program was joyful, knowledgeable, entertaining and successful due to the active participation of students. Approximatly 1000 students(from IT,CSE.ME.ECE) participated in this event. The overall motive of this event was to explore the hidden talent and capabilities. To inspire the students our honorable Director-Principal, Dr. B. Pattnaik gave a motivational speech to encourage the students for future participation in such events.

ndustrial Visit to Technospecs Technologies

IT department has organized an industrial visit for its 2nd year students on 29/01/2016. The students visited Technospecs Technologies, E-196, Phase 8-B, Industrial Area, Mohali. The students showed keen interest in this visit. The students reported at Technospecs Technologies at 10:30 am. There were 58 students in visiting group and were accompanied by two faculty members Asst. Prof. Anamika and Asst. Prof. Harjinder Singh. Students were really excited after making this visit. The company officials gave them presentations on different technologies being used in the company that are: Android, Core java, Networking.

An interactive session was conducted by company officials. The session was very interesting; students are very keen for such industrial visits in near future in other big companies so that they could see themselves and learn industry style of working. We have conveyed the expectations of students along with thanks to the CRC deptt and they have also assured us to tie-up with companies for such visits often.

06/02/2016)

IT department has organized an industrial visit for its 2nd/3rd year students on 06/02/2016. The students visited TCIL, SCO-3017-3018, Sector 22D, Chandigarh. The students showed keen interest in this visit. The students reported at TCIL at 10:30 am. There were 40 students in the visiting group and were accompanied by two faculty members Asst. Prof. Shanky goyal and Asst. Prof. Harsimran Kaur. Students were really excited after making this visit. The company officials gave them presentations on different technologies being used in the company that are: Android, Mobile Apps.

An interactive session was conducted by company officials. Students find the session interesting. Students learned a lot during this seminar. Students are very keen for such industrial visits in near future in other big companies so that they could see themselves and learn industry style of working. We have conveyed the expectations of students along with thanks to the CRC dept and they have also assured us to tie-up with companies for such visits in the near future.

ICT program on the topic “Open Source Technology”

 

Department of IT had conducted the ICT program on “Open Source Technology” in Lab no. 613, Engineering Block-3 from 4th January to 8th January 2016. This ICT program was sponsored by NITTTR, Chandigarh. This course was very beneficial for faculty from IT/CSE/ECE/CGC-COE departments. About 45 participants from various departments of the college participated in the course.

The morning and evening session on dated 4th January 2016 was taken by Mr. Amit Doegar, Assisstant Professor, NITTTR Chandigarh. He highlighted the use of open source technologies and tools.

Next day that is 5th January 2016 Mr. Vipin Gupta, U-Net Solution, Moga explained the concept of Open source cloud deployment.

Dr. Gaurav Kumar, Magma Consultancy, Ambala was the resource person for rest of the three days that is from 6th January to 8th January, 2016. He gave an insight into Big Data Analytics using Open Source Tools, Data Mining using Tanagra and Weka, R programming for Research and Development, Technical Report writing using Latex, Citation Management using Mendeley and Zotero.

 

According to the feedback by participants, this session was wonderful in the sense of Technical contents and way of Presentation.
The last session on 8th January 2016 was taken by Mr. Amit Doegar. In this feedback about the complete course was collected from all the participating colleges.

ICT based Faculty Development Program  on Open Source Technologies

Department of IT organised the NITTTR sponsored ICT based STC on “Mobile Computing” in the Engineering Block-3 from 15/02/2016 to 19/02/2016. This course was very beneficial for faculty from IT/CSE/ECE departments.  About 50 participants from various departments of the college participated in the course. The morning session dated 15th February 2016 was taken by Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, and Deptt. of CSE, NITTTR Chandigarh. The evening session was on Urban sensing using smart phones, delivered by Dr. Divya Bansal, PEC, and Chandigarh

Next days that is 16th and 17th February 2016, Mr. Mayank Arora explained the concept of Application Development using Android.Mr. Saurabh Kaushal, Technical Administrator, Deptt. of CSE, NITTTR Chandigarh was the resource person for the fourth day that is 18th February, 2016. He gave an insight into Security Threats in Various Networks and Security Issues for Mobile Devices The last day that is 19th February, 2016 Ms. Mala Kalra, Assistant Professor,  Deptt. of CSE, NITTTR Chandigarh gave a brief description on Mobile Computing vs. Other Computing Technologies The evening session was taken by Dr. C Rama Krishna, Professor, Deptt. of CSE, NITTTR Chandigarh. In this feedback about the complete course was collected from all the participating colleges. The session wise attendance was taken as directed by NITTTR Chd..

“Expert Talk” on Mobile Computing and APLOMB Technology (Agent Pedestal for Load Optimization, Management and Bond: Concepts and Applications) in IT Deptt. at CEC, Landran, Mohali

Department of IT conducted an Expert lecture on “Mobile Computing and APLOMB Technology (Agent Pedestal for Load Optimization, Management and Bond: Concepts and Applications) on Friday 05.02.2016 from 10.30 a.m. onwards. Dr. R.B.Patel, Professor (CSE), from Chandigarh College of Engg. & Technology, Sector 26, Chandigarh was the key note speaker. Dr. R.B.Patel explained Mobile Computing and APLOMB Technology (Agent Pedestal for Load Optimization, Management and Bond: Concepts and Applications). The expert talk was organized to give an insight into practical aspects of the Mobile Computing Techniques and its applications in Engineering. The students of 6th Semester B.Tech (IT), M. Tech (IT & IS) & M. Tech (CSE) also participated in the expert talk. The participants got an exposure to understand   that a Mobile Agent is an emerging technology that is gaining momentum in the field of distributed computing. The use of mobile agents brings some interesting advantages when compared with traditional client/server solutions as it reduces the traffic in the network. It allows the use of disconnected computing and it provides more flexibility in the development and maintenance of the applications. Dr. Patel further also explained that in the latest years, several commercial implementations of mobile agent systems have been presented in the market. The focus of the Expert Talk was to make students aware of the new advancements in the field of Agent Mobility, Agent to Agent Communication, Broadcast and Multicast Communication and Mobile Agent Applications. The knowledge and confidence of students gets tremendously enhanced by attending this seminar. With this expert talk the students get an opportunity of getting their doubts cleared.

This Lecture was conducted in Seminar Hall, 4th Floor, Block No.3, Deptt. of Information Technology, from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. onwards, on 05.Feb.2016.

Department of Information Technology has conducted an Expert Talk on “How to Write an Effective Research Paper” in the Lab No. 613 in Engineering Block-3 on Monday 11.04.2016 for M.Tech students. The session starts at 11.00 a.m to 12.30 p.m. The Expert was Dr. Bikram Pal Kaur, Professor in Department of Information Technology. Python Programming workshop conducted by Infosys Limited at PEC University of Technology.

Ms. Harsimran Kaur, Assistant Professor in Department of Information Technology and Mr. Bharat Verma,  Assistant Professor in Department of Computer Science Enginering,  Chandigarh Engineering College, Landran attended three days, ”

Train the Trainer on “Python Programming” workshop conducted by Infosys Limited at PEC University of Technology during 14th to 16th March 2016.  It was a great learning experience for them during three days.  Workshop sessions along with practical implementation were conducted by Ms. Manisha (Principal , Education, Infosys), Ms. Kamaljeet Kaur (Senior Member, Education, Infosys).

This workshop will not only benefit the faculty (through Peer Enablement) but it is also very much beneficial for the students as they are trained in these above mentioned areas with latest technological trends  being practiced in industry. These types of training will help them for future placements.
